building the infrastructure to support lasting change

PROGRESSION.jpg

A one-and-done workshop can be great and still not lead to deep learning or lasting changes in instructional practice. I work with school leaders to develop a customized long-term professional learning plan that aligns with the school’s mission (and fits into the schedule), taps into in-house strengths, and equips teachers with the skills and support they need to implement new tools and strategies with their students. Let’s create a sustainable and affirming professional learning culture.

Teachers discover new instructional tools and strategies by reading a book together, imagining ways to use its ideas, and connecting it to school priorities.

WORKSHOP

Teachers experience an instructional practices as if they were students in order to learn how it works, imagine classroom applications, and anticipate challenges.

DESIGN LABS

Within a playful and supportive environment, teachers create things they need (such as lesson plans, prompts, handouts, or assignments) to implement new instructional practices.

Teachers observe one another using a particular instructional practice and give each other responsive feedback to help each other notice and choose what they do.

Leaders amplify the work of excellent instructional designers, support anyone who struggles, build collaborative relationships, and incorporate key practices into evaluations.

Designing instruction that brings values to life isn’t something teachers learn in a single session — or even a yearlong series.

It has to be an everyday practice, just like teaching itself.

If your school is ready to sustain this work, let’s talk.
